About this event

Look! Up in the sky! Its a bird! Its a plane! Its a ... social and emotional learning program for children??

This experientially ran presentation will introduce you to the realm of school-based mental health and showcase how the world of superheroes can be utilized in an experiential way to help elementary age children learn valuable social and emotional learning skills through fun and engaging activities. The discussion will focus on the presenters experience developing and facilitating an 8 session superhero themed SEL program called Heroes Assemble! An SEL Training Program for Future Heroes for Grade 2-5 students. Included in this presentation will be a brief introduction into using experiential learning to create intentional learning experiences for the people you work with, as well as an opportunity to experience and learn about several of the activities used within the Heroes Assemble! program.

Learning Objective:
1. Describe experiential learning and how it can be applied into practice to create more meaningful learning experiences for the people they work with.
2. Engage in critical reflection and discussions on the impact school-based social & emotional learning programs can play in enhancing the mental health and wellbeing of children and youth in their homes and communities.
3. Incorporate a new psychoeducational resource with superhero themed activities into their respective practice with children, teens, and even adults.
