A discussion of YA literature and how the genre impacts adult audiences. Specific topics discussed include: the differences between what is considered "adult" literature vs "young adult" literature; a review of some popular YA sci-fi/fantasy works and the themes they contain/address that are relevant to adult audiences. Specific works include (but are not limited to): Rick Riordan's many works, Harry Potter, Cassandra Clare's Shadowhunters universe, His Dark Materials, The Hunger Games, and some of the works of Tamora Pierce; how adults can benefit from reading YA literature (some highlighted topics include: identity, sexuality, racism, religion, and gender norms/roles).

Learning Objectives:
1. Learn the difference between the classifications of ""adult"" and ""young adult (YA)"" literature
2. Learn prominent, common themes in YA literature, particularly YA sci-fi/fantasy literature.
3. Learn and discuss ways in which themes in YA are relevant to adult audiences and how to discuss these topics with adult clients.
